  • Academic Improvement Discussion (click to link)  This handout is actually designed to help train advisors in holding a disucssion with their advisory students on academic improvement.  One side assists the advisor in having a one-on-one conversation with an advisee on their academics, while the other side structures a large-group discussion.  Thanks Highland counselors!
  • Thought Substitution Worksheet (click to link)  Students often get caught in negative thought cycles, which lead to negative expectations, which lead to negative results.  This worksheet can be used with students to help replace negative thoughts with more productive, positive ones.  Thanks Harding counselors!

Freshman Curriculum

  • Building Successful Habits/Goal Setting (click to link)  This 2-day lesson has students discuss important habits for success in high school as well as identify three goals for the next year.  Thanks Highland counselors!
  • Academic Integrity (click to link)  Most schools have some form of Academic Integrity Policy which, unfortunately, students generally don't find out about until they violate it.  This 1-day lesson is designed to introduce freshmen to the policy and teach them how to advocate for themselves if they are ever accused of cheating.  Thanks Highland counselors!

Junior Curriculum

  • Junior Meeting Outline (click to link)  This handout can be used to guide a meeting with juniors that addresses the time-line for junior/senior year and post-secondary planning.  Thanks Harding counselors!
  • Understanding Your PSAT Results (click to link)  This handout, taken from College Board materials, is a good guide to use when helping students through their PSAT results.  It can be used in individual meetings or with small/large groups.  Thanks Highland counselors!
  • SAT Checklist (click to link)  This helpful checklist, created by the College Board, can be used when working with a student, or a group of students, in preparation for the SAT/ACT.  Elements of it could also be incorporated into a parent newsletter to share ideas for how to prepare for high-stakes tests. 
  • Writing a Resume (click to link)  This resume writing handout is designed to teach the basic elements of a standard resume.  It also includes dozens of helpful active verbs that students can use to detail their resume.  Thanks Highland counselors!

Senior Curriculum

  • State Colleges & Universities: Admissions (click to link)  This handout effectively summarizes the entrance requirements into MNSCU's two-year and four-year state colleges and universities.  An income chart comparing income based on education achieved is also included.  Thanks Harding counselors!
