Following Rules II (DUSO/Grades K-2)
Lesson Title: Following Rules II
Objective: To review the importance of following rules
Grade: K/2 Time: 25-30 minutes

Materials: Duso Book 1 (a copy is at 1930 Como), Duso Tape, Tape Player, Puppets (optional)

1. Review the importance of following rules.

2. Ask the students to tell the class about their picture or puppet play from last week.

3. Introduce Duso. Tell them that Duso will come to class every so often to help you.

4. Teach the students the ‘Hey Duso’ song.

5. Tell the class that you are going to read a story about Duso’s friends. Each one of his friends in the story has a rule. Ask them to try to remember the rules.

6. Read ‘The Underwater Problem Solvers’ on Page 1 in Duso book 1.

7. Show the picture on each page of the story and see if the class can remember the rule. You can do this a couple of times.

8. Optional - Do a puppet play on following one of Duso’s friends rules.

9. Play ‘Simon Says.’ Tell the children that this is a game where the rules are very important.

10. Teach the ‘Goodbye Duso’ song.

11. Review why it is important to follow rules.
