When I Go Camping (Grade K) Adapted from Counselor Name: Karen Halvorson Title of Lesson: When I Go Camping School: Fruchthendler Quarter: 1st Audience: Classroom Small Group Level: Primary (K-2) Intermediate (3-5) Target Grade: K COUNSELING STANDARDS ACADEMIC 1. Students will acquire attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span COUNSELING COMPETENCY(IES) Acquire effective listening skills. . MATERIALS/RESOURCES: Duffle Bag ACTIVITY: ACTIVITY- 1. Introduce topic of going camping. Put students in a circle and ask for a show of hands of students who have been camping. 2. Tell students they will be pretending to go camping today and will need to listen carefully and follow the counselor’s example. Counselor holds the duffle bag and says, “My name is______. I’m going camping, and I’m going to pack my socks.” Turning to next person, counselor asks, “What’s your name?” Second person introduces himself, and adds an item to duffle bag and repeats the person’s name and what the first person put in bag. Each person goes back around the circle remembering all the items and names. EVALUATION: Pretest/Posttest: None How did the student change as a result of this lesson? Students will be able to name all the students in the class and say one thing about the students. Information/Comments/Follow-up: At the end ask such questions as: who packed the toothpaste; who brought the pillow; etc. |
